I'm a school reform activist, as many of you know.  I rave about that stuff on my Twitter and MySpace.

I may or may not start a forum for it depending on the number of parents.

BUT.....................

I have to mention this:

My son who is 13 yrs old told a girl at school to :
"Shut up and choke on a cigarette!"

He was suspended from school for saying that.

While I agree it's not a very nice thing to say, I do not feel it's worthy of being suspended from school.

Our schools are overloaded with bullys, drugs, violence, and downright obstinate kids as it is. I'm not against suspension but here is my 2 cents:

Suspension in this case is both unnecessary and petty. This sounds more like a case of who like who or a simple lack of tolerance for kids.

Detention, if anything, would have been a sufficient punishment.

I guess if the biggest deal at this school is a comment like that, it must be an excellent school. lol

Suspension only hurts those students who are college bound.  It is not punishment.  Not any more!  Education use to mean something in this country.  In school detention would of been sufficient in this case.
I don't understand this world sometimes.  What is making the headlines this week?  The family who'se missing 6 year old was hiding in the attic while people were searching for him.  It does need to be investigated but, please why spend more money on this?   Wouldn't that money be better spent on drug law enforcement, domestic battery, or helping out the homeless.  Just my opinion.

Your right. It gets more ridiculous every day. This morning on Fox News a fireman who has had a sticker of the American flag on his locker for 20 years was suspended from work for having it there because another worker finds it offensive!!!!

Excuse Me!?!

Then what in the holy heck are you doing in America if you are so offended by America?

Go figure.
